The Project

Aside from intent to give exposure to the participants’ aesthetic abilities, this interactive exhibit intends to explore the meaning-making process, and discrepancies between messages received by viewers contrasted against the message intended by the photographer, as well as the interplay between the meaning connoted or suggested (suggested or inferred meaning) and denotation (literal meaning).

Alan Chin #1

Taken by Alan Chin | Clarksdale, MS
What the photographer saw

Restored Greyhound Bus Station, to become a visitor center for the town. At right is MALCOLM CRANK, director of "Revitalizing Clarksdale," a civic organization which runs the former station. This is one of the few buildings extant from the Civil Rights Era preserving the "architecture of segregation" with the former "White" and "Colored" Waiting Rooms inside. Clarksdale, Mississippi.
