What the photographer saw
People stand over an open mass grave being exhumed for the first time in Mahaweel, Iraq on May 9, 2003. Thousands of victims, presumed to have been killed by the Iraqi government after the 1991 Shia revolt against Saddam Hussein, were found at the site, many were unearthed bound and blindfolded.
